The Michelin Star (yes, Michelin, the tire company) is awarded to restaurants whose food is of exceptional quality. It is one of the highest awards in the culinary world with restaurants being able to earn between 1 to 3 stars. Stars can also be taken away if the quality deteriorates. This year, Michelin returned to LA to award Michelin Stars to 24 restaurants. Since we are smack dab in the middle of Dine LA, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to go to our first Michelin Star restaurant.
We headed over to Kali on Melrose Ave. They serve American/ Californian style food. For $99, we tried their 7-course Dine LA dinner menu. Here is what we found.
I started off with a glass of Maximin Grunhauser Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett. It is a lovely light German wine to accompany me through the entire meal.

Our first course was a bit of caviar on top of soft cheese and small bread. It was my first time having caviar, and it was delicious! However, with how minimal the course was, I was a little concerned about whether or not I will be getting enough food to get me full by the end of this dinner.

The second course was two pacific gold oysters with a bit of cucumber. These were some of the softest tastiest oysters I've ever had. Again, since they only gave us two for this course, I was worried we wouldn't be eating much for dinner.

The third course was gazpacho, which is a cold soup with lots of rich tomato and cucumber flavor. There was a bit more food in this course, so my worries were starting to dwindle.

Next was some yellowtail sashimi/poke. I don't know what cream this was, but it was good. It gave the fish much more flavor.

Now here's where all my worries about not getting full finally disappeared. Our fifth course was black barley risotto. It was extremely filling. I was excited for the rest of dinner moving forward.

Before the main course, they gave us the softest flakiest most delicious herb bread with smooth, creamy butter garnished with rosemary.

Now for the main course. We got a beautiful tender rib-eye steak with the most interesting potato I had ever tasted. The potato tasted like a baked potato on the inside, but the skin had a beautiful light crunch. I have never had a potato prepared like that, and it was amazing!

We ended dinner with this vanilla gelato with grated candied yolk. Oh my gosh. There was so much flavor in such little pieces of yolk. It was the perfect topping for the gelato.

As we got the bill, the server handed us a couple of chocolate truffles, and the chef came out to ask us how we liked our dinner. Of course, we loved it! It was prepared by one of the best in LA.

Overall, the dinner was delicious. There was nothing for me to worry about after all. My belly was full by the end of dinner. Eating here is justifiable a bit pricey because of the quality of the food. So definitely take advantage of deals like Dine LA whenever possible.
