Review - The Taste of Knott's - Knott's Berry Farm

pearlofpalm

Knott's has once again opened a foodie experience for the public to enjoy! The Taste of Knott's opened a few weeks ago. Tickets are still available for next weekend, 9/11-9/13. If you followed our blog a couple of months ago, we had visited Knott's last food tasting, the Taste of Calico, where we had a few grievances. I'm pleased to announce that this time around, we had a much better experience!

First of all, Taste of Knott's now has twenty-seven food stalls compared to Taste of Calico's seventeen stalls. The Taste of Knott's now extends past the Ghostown area into the Boardwalk and the Fiesta Village, which means there was much more space. The extra space allowed for more sitting areas. We never had trouble finding a seat.

The other significant change is the hours of operation. Taste of Calico had started at 4 PM and ended at 10 PM. This time, Taste of Knott's was open from 12 PM to 9 PM. We still showed up at 4 PM because of the heat, but this time, it was far less crowded.

These two changes fixed our biggest grievance with Taste of Calico, which was the EXTREMELY long lines. For example, during Taste of Calico, the line for Sutter's Grill extended to the park entrance. This time, when we went to Sutter's Grill, we were third in line. It was a considerable improvement!

Now on to the yums! Like Taste of Calico, you are given five tastings per card and can only get a maximum of two alcoholic drinks per card.

First, I'll start with cold items cause it was RIDICULOUSLY hot this weekend (108 degrees when we got there)! For non-alcoholic drinks, the Unicorn Icee was everyone's favorite. They pretty much dump all the Icee's they have (Orange Fanta, Blue Rasberry, Red Cherry, and Yellow Lemon) into one drink! It's fantastic and perfect for these hot end-of-summer days. It was so good that we used two tastings on this drink. Totally worth it!

Since the lines were much shorter, we were able to try some of the alcohol this time. All alcohol servings are much smaller than other drink options. The boysenberry beer tasted like regular beer, in our opinion. I couldn't really taste any of the boysenberry. The boysenberry sangria, on the other hand, was much more flavorful (fruity and sweet).

For food, we mainly stuck with sandwiches. We had some sliders from the Wilderness Broiler: Mrs. Knott's Famous Chicken Slider and the Grilled Portobello Mushroom Sandwich (vegetarian option). Both are served with a side of chips. These were both very average sliders. The portobello mushroom was a little hard to take bites from. Our next tastings had to be a bit more substantial.

The Shrimp Po' Boy with Chipotle Creme and the Slow Smoked Brisket Sandwich had looked pretty sizeable on the Knott's website ads. We had expected them to be full-size sandwiches, but alas, they were not. Although they were flavorful, they were small. The bread is about the size of store-bought hot dog buns.

Now, the actual hot dog, the Lousiana Style Mild Pork and Beef Sausage on a Hoagie Bun was huge! This is a good one to get if you are actually hungry.

Finally, for dessert, alongside our second Unicorn Icee, we ordered the Blue Velvet Lemon Cookiewich with Vanilla Soft Serve. It's a pretty good flavor profile. The creamy vanilla from the soft serve complements the lemony flavor from the cookie.

If you decide to go to Taste of Knott's, the times between lunch and dinner seem to be good times to go for fewer crowds. Make sure to bring lots of cold water. We had our handy dandy Hydroflask on hand. And most importantly, have fun and continue to stay safe!
